Advent I - Lauds Antiphon 1

Advent I Sunday's first Lauds antiphon envisions mountains dropping sweetness and hills flowing with milk and honey (Joel 3:18). This paradisiacal imagery presents the Messianic age as creation's transformation. The alleluia (unusual in Advent) appears at Lauds throughout the season, distinguishing morning praise from penitential Vespers.
