Antiphona 4
Common of Apostles - Lauds Antiphon 4
About This Prayer
Luke 22:28-29 records Christ's words at the Last Supper: 'Vos estis qui permansistis mecum in tentationibus meis' (You are they who have continued with me in my temptations). The Apostles' fidelity through Christ's 'temptations' (peirasmois - trials, testings) - including Gethsemane's agony and the crowds' rejection - merited their participation in His kingdom. Christ 'disposes' (dispono) a kingdom as one arranges an inheritance. At Lauds, this antiphon challenges the one praying: do you persevere with Christ through trials, or abandon Him when tested? Perseverance alone inherits the kingdom.
