Responsorium Breve
Common of Apostles - Terce Brief Responsory
About This Prayer
Psalm 18:5 (Vulgate numbering) declares 'In omnem terram exivit sonus eorum' - the heavens' proclamation of God's glory has 'gone forth into all the earth.' Paul applies this verse to apostolic preaching in Romans 10:18, arguing that Israel has indeed heard the Gospel because its messengers reached the world's ends. The responsory form, with its repeated refrain after the verse, enacts liturgically the echoing spread of the Gospel from Jerusalem to the nations. At Terce, the hour of Pentecost, this text celebrates the Spirit-empowered proclamation that began at the third hour (Acts 2:15).
