Common of Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Lauds Hymn

'O gloriosa virginum' (O glorious one among virgins) ranks Mary supreme among all virgins. The stanza 'Qui te creavit, parvulum lactente nutris ubere' (He who created thee, as a little one, thou didst nurse at thy breast) articulates the Incarnation paradox: the Creator nursed at his creature's breast. The reference 'Quod Heva tristis abstulit, tu reddis almo germine' (What sorrowful Eve took away, thou restorest with thy loving offspring) presents Mary as the new Eve. At Lauds, this hymn celebrates Mary as the reversal of humanity's fall, her maternity restoring what Eve's disobedience lost.
