DIVINUM OFFICIUM Chapter

Capitulum

Common of Confessors - Lauds Chapter from Wisdom 10:10

About This Prayer

Wisdom 10:10 provides this expanded capitulum describing God's guidance of Jacob/the confessor. The sequence 'deduxit...ostendit...dedit' (led...showed...gave) traces divine initiative: guidance on the journey, revelation of the destination, and bestowal of wisdom. The 'scientia sanctorum' (knowledge of holy things) is not information but transformative wisdom - knowing God, not merely about God. At Lauds, as the day's journey begins, this reading promises that the same God who guided the patriarchs and confessors will guide every faithful soul through right paths toward heavenly knowledge.
