Responsorium Breve
Common of Confessors - Sext Brief Responsory
About This Prayer
Psalm 36:30 (Vulgate) provides this text on the righteous man's wisdom. 'Os iusti meditabitur sapientiam' (The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom) uses 'meditari' in its Hebrew sense of 'hagah' - to murmur, ponder, recite aloud. The 'lingua loquetur iudicium' (tongue shall speak judgment) refers to just decisions, not condemnation - the confessor's teaching guided souls rightly. At Sext, when Christ was judged unjustly, this responsory contrasts human injustice with the confessor's just speech that flowed from wisdom's meditation.
