Luke 12:42 provides this antiphon from Christ's parable responding to Peter's question about the preceding parable. The 'servus fidelis et prudens' (faithful and wise servant) combines two essential qualities: fidelity (consistent reliability) and prudence (practical wisdom in administration). Being set 'super familiam' (over the household) indicates delegated authority and accountability. At Vespers, as the workday ends and servants return for the master's inspection, this antiphon presents the confessor as the ideal steward who wisely managed God's household - the Church - and is now eternally set over heavenly affairs.
