Opening Versicle (Paschal)
Alleluia is said from Easter Vigil through Friday of Pentecost Octave
About This Prayer
The opening versicle at Compline during Paschaltide, distinguished by the characteristic Alleluia added to the Deus in adjutorium. This dialogue between celebrant and choir initiates the final canonical hour of the day with the joyful proclamation of the Resurrection. The Alleluia, suppressed from Septuagesima through Holy Saturday, returns at the Easter Vigil and continues through the Friday of the Pentecost Octave.
