"Ecce ancilla Domini" (Behold the handmaid of the Lord) quotes Mary's fiat from Luke 1:38, the words that enabled the Incarnation. As the Magnificat antiphon for Ember Wednesday Vespers, it crowns the day's Annunciation focus. Mary's submission to the divine word models the Church's Advent receptivity.
