DIVINUM OFFICIUM Responsory

Responsorium VI - Nocturn II

Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete), Nocturn II, Responsory 3

About This Prayer

"Egredimini et videte, filiae Sion" (Go forth and behold, daughters of Zion) quotes Canticle of Canticles 3:11, inviting the faithful to see King Solomon in his wedding crown. Patristic interpretation identifies Solomon ("peaceable") as Christ, crowned by His mother (Mary or human nature itself). The aurora imagery of the verse anticipates the Dayspring (O Oriens) coming from on high.
