DIVINUM OFFICIUM Responsory

Responsorium IV - Nocturn II

Fourth Sunday of Advent, Nocturn II, Responsory 1

About This Prayer

"Juravi, dicit Dominus" (I have sworn, saith the Lord) presents God's oath never again to be angry, His clemency unfailing (Isaias 54:9-10). By Advent IV, the mood shifts from judgment to mercy. The verse acknowledges momentary abandonment but promises great compassion in gathering His people, recalling Israel's exile and return as type of spiritual restoration.
