About This Prayer
The second responsory of Epiphany Matins draws from Psalm 71, the great Messianic psalm of Solomon's kingdom applied to Christ. The kings of Tarshish and the isles bring gifts; the kings of Arabia and Saba (Sheba) offer presents. All kings shall adore Him, all nations serve Him. This universalist vision fulfills the Epiphany theme of Christ revealed to the Gentiles.

R. Reges Tharsis et insulae munera offerent: * Reges Arabum et Saba dona adducent: et adorabunt eum omnes reges terrae, omnes gentes servient ei.
V. Suscipiant montes pacem populo tuo, et colles justitiam.
