Third Sunday of Lent, Nocturn II, Responsory 2

This responsory for the Third Sunday of Lent continues the Exodus theme: 'Those who persecuted thy people, O Lord, thou didst plunge into the deep, and in a pillar of cloud thou wast their leader.' The destruction of Pharaoh's army prefigures the destruction of sin in baptism. The pillar of cloud anticipates Christ leading His people through the desert of this world.
