Antiphona ad Magnificat (I Vesperis)
Visitation of BVM - I Vespers Magnificat
About This Prayer
From Luke 1:39, this antiphon narrates Mary's journey: 'Exsurgens Maria abiit in montana cum festinatione' (Mary rising up went into the hill country with haste). The 'festinatio' (haste) is not anxiety but charity's urgency: bearing Christ, Mary hastens to share Him. The geographical detail 'in civitatem Juda' grounds the narrative in Palestine's landscape. At First Vespers, this antiphon inaugurates the feast by recounting the journey that precedes the meeting: Mary's physical movement from Nazareth to Ein Kerem models the apostolic impulse to carry Christ to others.
