The Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Litany of Loreto takes its name from the shrine at Loreto, Italy, where it was sung as early as 1531. Pope Sixtus V formally approved it in 1587, making it the only Marian litany authorized for liturgical use. The 51 titles are organized theologically, with titles added after the definitions of the Immaculate Conception (1854) and Assumption (1950).
