AD SPIRITVM SANCTVM PRO CONSILIO

To the Holy Spirit for Counsel

This prayer combines the traditional Veni Sancte Spiritus invocation with the 'Actiones nostras' from the Roman Missal. It asks for the Spirit's light to be 'truly wise' and for divine inspiration to guide all actions from beginning to end. Counsel is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 11:2-3), essential for discernment and decision-making.

Veni, Sancte Spiritus,
reple tuorum corda fidelium,
et tui amoris in eis ignem accende.
V. Emitte Spiritum tuum et creabuntur.
R. Et renovabis faciem terrae.

Deus, qui corda fidelium Sancti Spiritus illustratione docuisti:
da nobis in eodem Spiritu recta sapere,
et de eius semper consolatione gaudere.
Actiones nostras, quaesumus Domine,
aspirando praeveni et adiuvando prosequere:
ut cuncta nostra oratio et operatio a te semper incipiat,
et per te coepta finiatur.

Come, O Holy Ghost,
fill the hearts of Thy faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Ghost:
grant that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
Direct, O Lord, we beseech Thee, all our actions
by Thy holy inspiration, and grant that we may carry them out with Thy gracious assistance;
that every prayer and work of ours may always begin from Thee,
and through Thee be happily ended.
