VIA CRVCIS — STATIO VI
Station VI — Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
About This Prayer
Station VI: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus. According to tradition, Veronica offered her veil to Jesus who left the impression of His face upon it. The meditation recalls Isaiah 53: the Redeemer 'fairest among the sons of men' has become 'a man of sorrows and the last of men.'
Prayer Text
LATINE
V. Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi.
R. Quia per sanctam Crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
STATIO VI — Veronica tergit faciem Iesu
Considera pietatem piae mulieris, quae dicitur Veronica, quae, videns Iesum ita afflictum, facie sanguine et sudore madida, ei suarium praebuit ut faciem suam tergeret. Iesus impressit in sudario imaginem vultus sui.
Numquam permittas ut iterum a te separar. Da ut semper te amem, et postea fac de me quidquid tibi placuerit.
Pater Noster. Ave Maria. Gloria Patri.
V. Miserere nostri, Domine.
R. Miserere nostri.
ENGLISH
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world.
STATION VI — Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
Consider the piety of the holy woman named Veronica, who, seeing Jesus so afflicted, His face bathed in sweat and blood, presented Him with a towel to wipe His face. Jesus left the impression of His holy countenance on it.
My most loving Jesus, Thy face was beautiful before the spit and blows Thou didst receive for me. O my soul, thy Redeemer, fairest among the sons of men, has become 'a man of sorrows and the last of men.' Imprint, I pray, Thy injuries on my heart, that I may never forget Thee.
I love Thee, my Jesus, above all things; I repent with my whole heart of having offended Thee. Never permit me to separate myself from Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always, and then do with me what Thou wilt.
Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory Be.
V. Have mercy on us, O Lord.
R. Have mercy on us.
