Common of Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary - None Chapter from Ecclesiasticus 24:16

About This Prayer

Sirach 24:12 describes Wisdom taking root in God's chosen people. The 'populus honorificatus' (honored people) is Israel, into which Mary was born. The 'hereditas Dei' (inheritance of God) is double: Israel was God's inheritance (Deuteronomy 32:9), and Mary inherited the promises made to Abraham. The 'plenitudo sanctorum' (fullness of saints) indicates Mary's place among - yet above - all the saints as their Queen. At None, the hour of death, this reading presents Mary as the one in whom Israel's hopes were fulfilled and from whom the Church's holiness flows.
