DIVINUM OFFICIUM Responsory

Responsorium IX - Nocturn III

First Sunday of Lent, Nocturn III, Responsory 3 - Gloria Patri omitted in Lent

About This Prayer

This ninth responsory for the First Sunday of Lent draws from Psalm 90:11-13 (Vulgate): 'God hath given his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways; in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.' This psalm, quoted by Satan in the Temptation, is reclaimed as assurance of divine protection. In Lent, the Gloria Patri is omitted from this final responsory.
