DIVINUM OFFICIUM Responsory

Responsorium IX - Nocturn III

Second Sunday of Lent, Nocturn III, Responsory 3 - Gloria Patri omitted in Lent

About This Prayer

This responsory for the Second Sunday of Lent draws from Luke 22:31-33: 'Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not.' Christ's warning to Peter before the Passion connects to the Transfiguration: the glory revealed sustains faith through trial. The responsory presents Christ as intercessor against satanic attack.
