The collect petitions God who 'beatam Mariam semper Virginem, Spiritus Sancti habitaculum, hodierna die in templo praesentari voluisti' (didst will that the blessed ever-virgin Mary, dwelling-place of the Holy Spirit, should on this day be presented in the temple). The title 'Spiritus Sancti habitaculum' (dwelling-place of the Holy Spirit) anticipates the Annunciation's 'Spiritus Sanctus superveniet in te.' The petition 'in templo gloriae tuae praesentari mereamur' (we may be found worthy to be presented in the temple of thy glory) transforms Mary's childhood offering into eschatological hope: as she was presented in the earthly temple, we hope to be presented in heaven.
