Our Lady of the Rosary - Collect (Oct 7)
About This Prayer
The collect petitions God whose 'Unigenitus per vitam, mortem et resurrectionem suam nobis salutis aeternae praemia comparavit' (only-begotten Son by his life, death, and resurrection hath purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation). This threefold summary (life, death, resurrection) encompasses the Rosary's Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries. The petition 'ut imitemur quod continent, et quod promittunt assequamur' (that we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise) defines the Rosary's twofold purpose: conformity to Christ now, glory with Him hereafter.
