Versiculus
Versicle after the brief response at Terce in Passiontide.
About This Prayer
This versicle at Terce during Passiontide draws from Psalm 21:22 (Vulgate): 'From the lion's mouth save me, O Lord, and my lowness from the horns of the unicorns.' The imagery of ferocious beasts represents Christ's enemies in the Passion. The Little Hours of Passiontide replace Psalm 90 (the protection psalm of ordinary Lent) with these more dramatic pleas for deliverance.
