GLORIA PATRI
The Doxology
About This Prayer
The Lesser Doxology was fixed in its current form during the 4th century specifically to combat Arianism, which denied the co-eternal divinity of the Son. The phrase 'as it was in the beginning' affirms that the Son's glory is eternal. It concludes every psalm in the Divine Office, omitted during Passiontide and in the Office of the Dead.
